Meet the Team: Paul Lohmuller

Name: Paul Lohmuller

Position: Software Engineer

Expertise: Dataverse extension and web development

Experience:

  • 5 years of experience with Microsoft Dynamics and the Power Platform.
  • Worked with clients to determine the best technical approach for their needs and budget.
  • Built dozens of React.JS web applications.
  • Implemented several ASP.NET REST APIs.

I once worked on a code-heavy project for which the client required that we use the Angular framework for custom web UI. At that time Angular was brand new and none of our dev team had worked with it, so I took a crash course before development began so I could hit the ground running. By the end of the project, I was the resident Angular expert. It felt good to meet the client’s expectations despite the circumstances.

I’m excited about the release of Custom Pages for model-driven apps. I like working on React components to extend the UI, but there’s a lot of overhead to building and deploying them. For small prompts and forms, it’ll be quicker and easier to spin up a new Custom Page. Since they’re low code/no code, anyone can pick it up and start building.

My favorite projects are the ones with an emphasis on custom development. It’s a fun challenge to build something from the ground up. Plus, integrating with the Dataverse API gives you a better understanding of it.

I think that we’re cultivating a reputation not only as a certified Microsoft Partner but also as a bona fide dev shop. It’s amazing to see what my peers come up with to meet our clients’ needs, and what they tinker with within their spare time. We’re constantly learning from each other. It feels good to be part of that.

Tokyo, no question. I tried a bunch of new food, and there were so many interesting sights to see, from traditional temples to futuristic 60ft robots. I think rapid transit is fascinating, so I enjoyed how fast and easy it was to get around on Tokyo’s metro.

I would love to own and operate a craft brewery. Homebrewing is my favorite hobby, and I’m constantly trying to improve the quality of my beer. The brewery would focus on traditional European lagers and non-alcoholic craft ales. Those are two kinds of beer that I really like but can’t find often enough.

Check out the Uncle Rube sandwich at Steingold’s Deli in Chicago’s Southport Corridor. Get it with thick-cut pastrami, you won’t be disappointed. It’s not the most exquisite food I’ve ever tasted, but it’s definitely one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had.
